Natural Environment Campaign Hopes to Inspire Greater Manchester

Do you know how you can play your part to help our natural environment?

Without a shadow of a doubt, 2020 has shown us the importance of the nature around us. Making time to get out and about to our local green spaces has been such a boost to our physical and mental health during trying times. But do you know how you can play your part to help Greater Manchester’s environment?

Environmental partners across the city region have produced a toolkit of media resources aiming to inspire the people of Greater Manchester to do their bit for nature.

Headed up by Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and part-funded by the Natural Course project, the campaign runs in collaboration with partners including the Environment Agency, the Royal Horticultural Society, United Utilities, City of Trees, Lancashire Wildlife Trust and Natural England. The toolkit aims to raise awareness of the work being delivered around the natural environment, and inspire residents, businesses and policy makers across the region to work together to improve it.

The bank of resources includes a comprehensive social media campaign, ‘how to’ articles on the Nature Greater Manchester website and a two-minute video which looks to inspire people look closer at our natural world. If we all work together by feeding the wildlife in our gardens, volunteering in our local parks or spreading the word to our friends and family, we can all play our part to help the environment. The Nature Greater Manchester website offers a whole host of ways that people can get close to nature while still adhering to social distancing rules.

Jennifer Lane, Campaign Manager at Greater Manchester Combined Authority and the Natural Course project, said:

 “Throughout the lockdown of 2020, we saw so many more people visiting their local green and blue spaces to exercise, relax and enjoy nature; our environment really can make us happier and healthier people in times of stress. However, with nature under threat from climate change, we need to make sure we all play our part in caring for it and ensuring it can be there to help future generations.

“If everyone completes a small action to help the natural world, it could make a massive difference. Our Natural Environment Toolkit gives people the resources to put nature at the heart of Greater Manchester.”
