The aim of this Pitch Development session is to improve your pitching skills and to emphasise the importance of preparation for pitches and presentations, particularly for the Innovation Showcase Competition at the semi-final stage. As part of the session you will be given the chance to pitch your business / product / service.

This interactive session is delivered by experienced pitch trainers and coaches from GC Business Growth Hub and NatWest

Semi-final pitches

When you are “pitching for real” at the semi final events, you will have 3 minutes to pitch a slide deck, and, typically, you should look to address the following questions.

  1. What problem are you solving and how is it different?
  2. What experience and skills do you and your team have that will help you successfully deliver your plan?
  3. At what stage is your business and when will it become revenue generating, if not already?
  4. How big is the market and who are the main competitors?
  5. What is your route to market, including sales pipeline?
  6. What funds have been invested to date and what is your current finance requirement? What, in particular, are you looking to get from an investor?
  7. What are your financials to date?

Questions 3 to 7 can be based on your figures or research.

The most challenging part is often articulating the answer to “What problem are you solving and how is it different? Consequently, for the Pitch Development session we will focus on preparation and skills needed for you to deliver the best possible presentation.

During the pitch development you will get some practice delivering a one-minute pitch

So, prior to the session, please consider the following questions:

  • Who are your customers? (actual or potential)
  • How big is the market?
  • Which of your customers’ problem are you looking to solve?
  • What is your solution? Why is it different? How are you special?
  • What experience and skills do you and your team have that will help you successfully deliver your plan?
