Having a blue Monday? How about a brew Monday?

The third Monday in January is sometimes referred to as ‘Blue Monday’ as it is supposed to be the hardest day of the year, following the festive break come down, cold weather and the long wait until the next pay day.  However, the Samaritans have coined a new term for the day, instead renaming it ‘Brew Monday’ noting that we can all have good days and bad days and these aren’t decided by the calendar.

 

The premise of Brew Monday is to encourage people to reach out to family, friends, colleagues and loved ones to connect over a brew!  It doesn’t have to be a Monday either, it doesn’t matter if you’re connecting over a tea, coffee, smoothie or orange juice, the most important thing is to connect with others and check in.  

Once someone starts opening up to you it is important to listen to what they have to say. Samaritans have created a guide called SHUSH with active listening tips and also share their top tips for encouraging someone to open up.

So instead of focusing on this Monday being ‘blue’, why not reach out to a friend, family member, colleague or loved one for brew, it’ll be great for both them and you 😊.
