Brexit Weekly Digest - 6 August

This week the Border Operating Model is updated, and the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce (GMCC) reveals its new Excellence Awards, plus we share its upcoming August events running to support your business post-Brexit.

Updated Border Operating Model published

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has published an updated Border Operating Model to reflect the revised timetable for introduction of the next stage of UK import requirements. The documents also include additional detail on policies and processes.

Lord Frost, Minister of State, said in a statement, “This updated Border Operating Model will continue to help businesses, which trade with the EU, to understand the approaching new requirements as well as those which are already in effect. We are also encouraging businesses to go to [Webinars and Videos for organisations that trade with the EU] to gain access to the host of resources the Government has created to assist traders”.

GMCC Excellence Awards

The GMCC launched its first ever Excellence Awards last month, to celebrate business achievements and resilience during the pandemic. The awards will give businesses, leaders and teams a chance to “shine in the spotlight” and be officially recognised and rewarded for their contributions.

The Excellence Awards cover five categories, which allows the full range of businesses and organisations we have in Greater Manchester to enter. The categories are:

  • Entrepreneurial Success
  • Exporting Excellence
  • Green & Sustainable Strategy
  • Business Diversification
  • Diversity and Inclusion; Recognition Award

Entries are now open, and the deadline for applications is Friday 27th August. The GMCC Excellence Awards Celebration will take place on Thursday 28th October at the Chamber’s offices at Elliot House when the winners will be revealed.

Additionally, all entries will also be automatically entered into the prestigious national British Chambers of Commerce Awards - the award ceremony for this will take place in December 2021.
