Who is the service for?
One-to-one mentoring support focuses on the individual. It is designed to help business people who feel that they want to develop personally and professionally. It can provide you with the breathing space you need to work on your business. The results of one-to-one mentoring can have a dramatic effect on the way in which your business grows.
About the service
We have a network of over 300 mentors, each is an experienced business person who has decided they want to give something back and work with the next generation of entrepreneurs.
To access the service, the first step is to speak to one of our mentoring advisors, who will help you to identify your growth plans and what you want to achieve personally from mentoring. Based on this, we will then match you with a mentor who we feel can really add value, although we will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that the relationship is working for both parties.
What can a Mentor do for my business?
Mentors can provide an independent perspective on your business, acting as a sounding board for new ideas. They can work with you to set new goals, and clarify the direction your business is taking. They can also help you develop new skills and expertise, and prepare you for times of change.
We also offer mentor/mentee inductions which are an opportunity to ask questions and find out more about what mentoring is and how it can help you.
Networking and masterclasses
We hold free monthly networking meetings where mentors and mentees can meet and talk, alongside masterclasses which concentrate on developing the mentees personally and in their business. Topics include leadership, managing change, growing your business, taking a product to market, marketing, understanding finance, sales and customer service.

Growth Start-Up and Mentoring Manager
Gill has a 32 year career in the banking industry. She has developed a keen interest in lending and sales, particularly in the corporate arena. She has also spent some time working with Business Link, delivering business support and advice to the finance and professional sectors, while also managing her own business as the owner of two sub post offices.
Mentoring Development Executive
Andy has over 15 years’ experience of mentoring and coaching individuals and teams, having worked with major employers such as RBS, Direct Line, Swinton Insurance, and over 200 SMEs around Greater Manchester. He has also run his own franchise business and has been involved in sales since starting his career. Fascinated by the psychology of decision makers, his inspirations are business leaders, entrepreneurs and sales legends, for example, Jim Rohn, Zig Ziglar, marketing gurus Seth Godin and Gary Veynerchuk. He’s particularly motivated by helping people with serious business aspirations to grow and develop.
Corinne is a business coach and mentor who specialises in working with business owners and their senior management team, helping them increase the productivity of their business and their employees. With 15 years’ experience in the financial services industry, majority of the time was spent running her own business, Corinne feels an empathy with the business people she works with and understands the issues they’re facing in the current climate. She’s passionate about helping people to achieve their full potential in both their personal and business lives.
Gill brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this role, having worked for several FTSE 100 companies, SMEs and run her own businesses. Gill began work in administration and worked her way up to being the CEO of her own company. She has a passion for helping people make the most of their business and an in-depth knowledge that ranges from bookkeeping and accounts through to websites and search engine optimisation (SEO).
With a background in internet and eCommerce projects, Nicola brings 20 years’ consulting experience with high street names and SMEs helping them to develop their online strategy. Passionate about helping small businesses to stand out and be seen online, Nicola provided a range of online services through her own business. An advocate of unconventional and creative approaches to digital strategy, Nicola especially enjoys working with companies and individuals who want to do things differently. As a mentor for the Business Growth Hub, Nicola has experienced first hand the difference that mentoring can make to enable businesses to grow, and the benefits that the relationship brings to both the mentee and the mentor.
Before joining the Business Growth Hub last year Deirdre spent five years at Skills Solutions working as a business advisor in the health and social care sector. Deirdre managed a team of advisors and supported SME’s. She has a wealth of experience in advising companies about all aspects of business development, with particular expertise in sales, recruitment and staff development. She has previously set up and managed two of her own businesses, a marketing consultancy and a training company. With a proven track record in providing practical support to entrepreneurs in growing their businesses, Deirdre has a real passion to help local businesses to succeed. She is particularly excited about the opportunities for economic growth in the Greater Manchester area.
Janine has over 20 years’ experience of working in and around people development. She has worked within public, commercial and third sector environments and has experience of delivering consultancy services. Janine has also run her own business and has a good grasp of the challenges business leaders face across a wide range of environments. Janine has considerable experience of project management and has successfully delivered complex high value programmes of work. She has an excellent grasp of process engineering enabling her to identify operational efficiencies and improvements. Janine is passionate about getting to know how a business operates and working with the business leader to identify and implement business improvement actions.
Lauren is experienced working in the public sector as a policy project coordinator and currently works with the Mentoring Team, supporting their work and events. Previously, a project coordinator with the police, Lauren worked with other police organisations and external parties to ensure criminal policy and procedure was successfully implemented. She also has extensive knowledge of project management, data compliance, and running events.
Mike joined the Growth Mentoring team after spending the previous three years working as a case owner in customer relations for the North West’s electricity distributor. He has a genuine passion for helping people and strives to provide the best service he can. Mike has had a great deal of experience making sure compliance is met with governing bodies, having previously worked under OFGEM and European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) projects. He also has extensive experience dealing with businesses from SME’s to large corporations having spent a number of years working for the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce as an account manager.

As a mentor you will be part of the Business Growth Hub mentors team. We arrange regular informal meetings for this group which featuring guest speakers, opportunities to network and sharing experiences with your fellow mentors and exploring more ways of helping your mentees.
Mentoring can be a great way for you to develop too, honing skills such as such as supporting others, listening, giving feedback, and adapting your leadership style. It can also increase job satisfaction and raise your visibility within your own organisation and the business world at large.
