A Vision for Smarter Growth

KANE’s “30/30 Vision” aims to achieve a turnover of £30 million with an operating profit margin of 30% by 2030. To achieve this goal, the company must streamline its operations and expand its international presence. 

Leaning on the Growth Hub for Success

BGH implemented a customised support programme for KANE’s team. Initially, they conducted leadership and culture workshops. Next, the focus turned to Lean Manufacturing and the creation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). BGH advisors collaborated closely with KANE’s team to integrate lean principles throughout all departments, including manufacturing, service, and administration.

Daily continuous improvement meetings were implemented to encourage feedback and innovation from the shop floor. These sessions empowered staff to identify inefficiencies, propose solutions, and take ownership of their workspaces. SOPs), developed collaboratively, ensured consistency and quality across all operations. As a result, the workforce became more agile, efficient, and engaged.

The operational impact was immediate and dramatic. KANE achieved a 50% reduction in space requirements and a 60% reduction in manpower for specific processes without compromising quality.

Exporting with Confidence

With more than 50% of sales originating from exports, KANE is well-acquainted with international markets. However, recent global challenges—such as tariffs, supply chain disruptions, and changing regulations—have necessitated a more strategic approach to managing these risks.

To navigate the impact of US tariffs on UK goods, Jonathan Hoole sought advice from Ishan Dutta, an International Growth Advisor from the Business Growth Hub. Given KANE’s position in a niche market, where customers have limited alternatives, Ishan recommended KANE modify their pricing strategy by passing on the additional costs to customers to help soften the blow and maintain profitability.

In addition to its operations in the United States, BGH assisted KANE in developing markets, including Italy, Brazil, Germany and Southeast Asia. The Growth Hub offered guidance on building distributor relationships, understanding local regulations, and improving export readiness.

These efforts are already paying off, as KANE is actively expanding its global presence and laying the groundwork for long-term international growth.

Building Internal Capability

In addition to enhancing processes and exports, BGH also assisted KANE in fostering leadership and problem-solving abilities. Workshops were conducted to help supervisors and team leaders build confidence, improve communication, and promote continuous improvement.

This investment in personnel is yielding positive results. KANE’s team is now more engaged, more skilled, and better aligned with the company’s growth objectives.
