Halite Global is a Bolton-based, family-run business specializing in high-purity Himalayan pink salt sourced from the Punjab region of Pakistan. Serving sectors such as pharmaceuticals, food, and hospitality, the company recently expanded into the retail market with its premium KHAVE brand, launching in the US in 2024 and planning a UK rollout in this year. 

 

The Manufacturing Challenge 

As demand grew, Halite Global needed to refine its salt drying process to reduce moisture content from 3% to below 1%. Traditional drying methods—such as rotary, vacuum, and infrared drying—were either too energy-intensive or compromised the salt’s natural quality. The company sought a solution that would be both cost-effective and environmentally sustainable.

To tackle this challenge, Halite Global partnered with Green Economy, the sustainability specialist of the GM Business Growth Hub. With a dedicated team of business advisors, the Hub is a key resource for business support in Greater Manchester. 

By conducting a detailed review of Halite’s production process, The Hub’s manufacturing and sustainability specialists identified inefficiencies and explored alternative drying technologies. 

Through tailored advice and technical guidance from experts, Halite assesses the feasibility of dehumidification as a low-energy drying method. The team supported equipment trials, provided insights into environmental impact, and helped the business make confident investment decisions aligned with its sustainability goals. 

 

Implementing an Energy-Efficient Drying Solution 

With the support from both organisations, Halite Global successfully trialled a dehumidifier and confirmed its effectiveness in reducing moisture while preserving product quality. The company then invested in a custom-built two-floor drying chamber and installed two ECOR Pro DH3500 Desiccant Dehumidifiers, each capable of extracting 45 litres of moisture per day. 

This new setup enabled Halite to scale production efficiently, reduce energy use, and maintain the high purity standards required by its clients in regulated industries. 

 

Sustainable Impact and Business Growth 

The transition to dehumidification significantly lowered Halite Global’s energy consumption and carbon emissions—estimated to be up to 50 times lower than traditional salt production methods. This innovation not only improved operational efficiency but also reinforced the company’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing.
