As a Workforce Development Specialist, I’m proud to be part of Greater Manchester’s journey towards a greener, fairer, and more resilient economy. Through my role at the GM Business Growth Hub, I support the Green Sector to build the skills and capabilities needed to power our region’s green transition.

What does my role involve?

•    Identifying and addressing skills gaps in key green activities which is rapidly growing.
•    Supporting employers to build talent pipelines and implement effective succession planning.
•    Championing inclusive growth, ensuring green jobs are accessible to all communities and that diversity is embedded across the sector.
•    Tracking impact of employment outcomes, business benefits, and contributions to net zero targets.
•    Embedding the principle of ‘Every Job a Green Job’, helping businesses integrate sustainability into roles.

Why this matters

Greater Manchester has set an ambitious target to become a carbon neutral city region by 2038. To achieve this and continue growth, we are supporting businesses to build a skilled, adaptable, and diverse green workforce.
“Decarbonising Greater Manchester’s local energy system by 2038 is achievable and expected to require capital investment of £13.2b” (Local Area Energy Plan 2021)
Greater Manchester’s trailblazing transition to Net Zero, is expected to stimulate a massive £30-40 billion of total investment across our city-region up until 2040.
We’re not just tackling climate change we’re creating opportunities for people and businesses to thrive.
