Call out for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Entrepreneurs

Entries are still open for this year’s Top BAME Under 50 Entrepreneurs 2021 awards.

Minority businesses make up one million of the six million businesses registered in the UK and employ nearly three million people, according to a report released earlier this year.

Minority Businesses Matter also revealed that enterprises led by ethnic-minority entrepreneurs contribute over £74 billion a year to the UK economy.

And it’s these businesses that are being encouraged to enter this year’s Top BAME Under 50 Entrepreneurs 2021 awards, run by the tech news site TechRound.

Last year’s list featured a wide range of businesses from online retailers to gaming companies, as well as digital pioneers, many specialising in medicine and healthcare. It also saw Nitin Passi, founder of Manchester-based Missguided, make it into the top five.

Inclusion on the list has provided a springboard for many businesses, thanks to coverage in the mainstream media which has led to interest from investors and venture capitalists.

David Soffer, co-founder of TechRound, explains: “We are so delighted to see how some of our finalists have grown significantly in the last year, with some companies recently announcing huge funding rounds (Naq Cyber) and using TechRound BAME Top 50 as a springboard and validation for further business.

“TechRound is not a traditional start-ups news site - we want to celebrate people from all backgrounds and businesses of all sizes, and this list will be a testament to those individuals who are diversifying the UK’s start-up landscape.”

So far this year, the Business Growth Hub has supported 115 Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic owned businesses, while over 25% of individuals receiving help starting a business were minority ethnic.

The Growth Company's Chair of the EmbRace committee, an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion network focused on race, Fiona Miller adds  “It's important to have a diverse set of organisations that we work with to reflect the diverse community we live in.”

The deadline to enter the awards is November 10. Further details of the free to enter awards are here.
