2023 manufacturing leadership programme to include on-site learning at Siemens

Places are available for the first 2023 cohort of the Growth Hub’s popular Made for Manufacturing leadership programme, which will feature an exclusive factory visit to Siemens Congleton.

Made for Manufacturing 2023: Manufacturing Champions follows on from a successful 2020-2022 programme which saw over 60 SME leaders from across Greater Manchester benefit from a benchmarking self-audit, short dynamic workshops, expert speakers, one-to-one support and peer-to-peer learning over seven weeks to achieve manufacturing excellence.

The fully funded programme has been redeveloped for 2023 to include an onsite workshop at the impressive Siemens Congleton site in February, including a discussion with the leadership team and a structured factory tour. The site has recently been dubbed one of Siemens’ most productive facilities worldwide and is on track to become carbon neutral eight years earlier than planned.

Programme Manager Nick Brandwood explained:

“What Siemens are excellent at is engaging their people by instilling an ownership culture throughout their business. Each employee is empowered to make decisions as if the company was theirs. That empowerment comes from the behaviours the leaders exhibit and how they convey that through the organisation.

“Our Made for Manufacturing 2023: Manufacturing Champions delegates will be able to see how this ownership culture works in practice on the shopfloor, including how performance measures are conveyed, how people are involved in reviewing activities and how digitisation is used to disseminate knowledge around the organisation.

“It’s also a brilliant opportunity to see a best practice operation striving towards net zero, which is a journey every manufacturer will have to go on.”

Earlier in the six-part programme, delegates will also benefit from a site visit to Atec Engineering Solutions in Salford. Atec Engineering won four prestigious awards at the recent Make UK Manufacturing Awards 2022, and this is a great opportunity to learn from manufacturing good practice in action.
