Made in the North West Awards: 2022 Winners

This year’s Made in the North West Awards featured an abundance of businesses supported by the Hub’s Manufacturing Service, including an exemplar from our Made for Manufacturing programme.

Insider’s Made in the North West Awards showcase the best of the region’s manufacturing success stories across a range of different categories.

Salford-based Atec Engineering Solutions – a delivery partner on the Hub’s popular Made for Manufacturing programme – won the Automotive, Aerospace and Rail Award for the second year running. The judges highlighted the firm’s innovative mindset through the pandemic, which included using body cameras so staff could work on problems together while social distancing.

Delegates on new Made for Manufacturing cohorts this year are able to go on a tour of Atec’s facility in Worsley, which is an exemplar in manufacturing excellence.

Carrs Pasties was named winner of the Food and Drink Award, with the judges commenting on the company’s constant innovation in bringing new products to market – including a new nationwide delivery service.

Also nominated in the Food and Drink category were Spirit of Manchester Distillery (highly commended), Kendal Nutricare, Lakeland Artisan and Forest Distillery – all of whom have worked with our Manufacturing Advisors. Spirit of Manchester Distillery and Kendal Nutricare were also shortlisted for Manufacturer of the Year and Export awards respectively.

Another food manufacturer, Simply Doughnuts in Blackburn, won the Sustainable / Ethical Manufacturer Award for its work to extend shelf-life and minimise food waste. These efforts also saw the company win the highly coveted Queen’s Award for Sustainable Development earlier this year.

Simply Doughnuts has previously worked with Manufacturing Advisors at the Hub to deliver a 12-week lean improvement project and received grant funding to purchase machinery for new product development.

Other shortlisted manufacturers supported by our Manufacturing Service included security solutions firm ATG Access and digital signage manufacturer Evoke Creative (both Manufacturer of the Decade), secure printing provider TALL Security Print (Export and Manufacturing Apprentice / Training Scheme), and surface treatments manufacturer King and Fowler (Automotive, Aerospace and Rail).
