What type of manufacturing support do you need?

The Made in the North West Awards showcase the best of the region’s manufacturing success stories across a range of different categories.

Food and Drink

This year’s winners included Blackburn-based Simply Doughnuts, which won the Food and Drink Award for its commitment to innovation and sourcing local ingredients.

Simply Doughnuts has previously worked with Manufacturing Advisors at the Hub to deliver a 12-week lean improvement project that freed up much-needed production capacity, creating two new jobs in the process.

Automotive, Aerospace and Rail

The Automotive, Aerospace and Rail Award went to Salford-based Atec Engineering Solutions, another company that has benefitted from the Hub’s support. The judges said Atec was impressive for working with esteemed companies such as Rolls-Royce and engaging in the innovative use of technology.

Atec was recently singled out by the Hub’s manufacturing team as a novel example of how to use visual management to achieve continuous improvement.

Innovation

Among the shortlist for the Innovation Award was Handrail Creations in Bolton. The company, which has created bespoke handrails for the Houses of Parliament and is on track to achieve record turnover this year, received the Hub’s support to invest in new 3D software and equipment that has increased processing speed by 25 per cent.

Export

Shortlisted in the Export category was Bury-based Faith in Nature, an award-winning supplier of hand wash and soaps to major retailers. During lockdown, Faith in Nature received advice and support from the Manufacturing team to ensure continued production through the pandemic.

Faith in Nature has also previously received support from the Hub’s Resource Efficiency team to improve energy and water efficiency.

Manufacturer of the Year

Two other manufacturers that have been supported by the Hub - cable solutions firm Autac Products Ltd in Macclesfield and investment casting manufacturer Dean Group International in Salford - were also shortlisted in the Manufacturer of the Year (under £25m) category.
