What type of manufacturing support do you need?

AMPI is an industry-led initiative to drive innovation for the UK’s advanced machinery manufacturers in the North of England.

The Institute aims to be a pivotal ‘centre of excellence’ for the design, development and manufacture of advanced intelligent machinery, robotic and cooperative systems. It will also deliver an increase in the skills and knowledge needed by industry at all levels to meet the challenges of developing new technology.

It is estimated AMPI could generate well over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs by providing a secure collaboration and innovation space for companies of all sizes.

The consortium, made up of The National Physical Laboratory (NPL), Rochdale Development Agency, local manufacturer PTG Holroyd Precision and the Universities of Huddersfield and Salford, has secured £50,000 early-stage funding for the initiative.

Tony Bannan, CEO of Holroyd and Precision Technologies Group, who has long campaigned for the creation of an institute in Rochdale to meet the rising skills gap facing manufacturers, said:

“Our ambition is for AMPI to become a practical, accessible and potentially transformative resource for regional and national manufacturing companies – of all sizes. If your company needs machines, new technologies, advanced processes or integrated systems to make your products, or if you need targeted innovation and skills to improve productivity and competitiveness, then AMPI will help you.”

AMPI is currently seeking foundation project partners and is in the process of defining the business case and delivery model. An online workshop is taking place on 5 November to allow industry to influence and learn more about this exciting initiative.
