Made Smarter leadership programme readies for next intake

The second cohort of the Made Smarter Leadership Programme, designed for business leaders looking to adopt new digital technologies, will start at the end of January 2020.

With a host of new digital technologies entering the manufacturing industry - from artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR) to additive manufacturing - it can be difficult for SME leaders to know where to start or understand what the impact might be on their operations and employees.

The eight-month Made Smarter Leadership Programme, developed and delivered by Lancaster University Management School, has been designed specifically with these concerns in mind, aiming to equip leaders of manufacturing SMEs with the vision and skills to confidently pursue digitalisation.

Launched in July 2019, the programme is the first of its kind in the country. Participants gain insights into how to audit their business for digitalisation, measure the true impact of change and successfully bring employees and other stakeholders along with them on the journey.

Alan Ryan, Managing Director of Technoprint, who was part of the programme’s first cohort, said:

“Seeing what you can achieve through digitalisation is mind-blowing and exactly what we want to aim towards. I’ve been really impressed with the emphasis on the role of people in this journey, which is important. The most significant attribute that I am finding is how powerful it is to have a group of other manufacturers all at the start of their journeys, working together. It has been very inspiring.”

The next course cohort beings on 30 January 2020. The cost is subsidised by Made Smarter - a government programme designed to boost UK manufacturing productivity and growth through the adoption of digital technology.
