Industry 4.0 Summit & Expo returns to Manchester

Ahead of the largest gathering of Industry 4.0 leaders and innovators returning to Manchester in April, an expert from Siemens underlines the importance of having a ‘target in mind’ for digital investments.

Launched in April 2017, the Industry 4.0 Summit & Expo has established itself as the UK’s premier gathering of senior executives from the UK manufacturing industry interested in developing their digital strategies.

Returning to Manchester on 10-11 April 2019, the Summit will attract leading authorities from government, business, academia and industry associations.

Running in parallel, the free Expo will attract around 2,500 manufacturing and supply chain professionals to showcase the latest advances in automation, robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), sensors, virtual reality, 3D printing, big data, predictive maintenance, human machine interfaces and other related areas.

In a blog post ahead of the event, Alan Norbury, Central Technology Officer at Siemens, said:

“On a practical basis, such tools will deliver a pathway to achievements that can be the foundation of tangible business success, including reduced time to market thanks to shorter innovation cycles, enhanced flexibility to provide for individualised production and higher productivity, as well as increased optimisation.

“In order to achieve such ambitions, it is vital to think holistically along the digitalisation value chain and try to integrate touchpoints throughout a product lifecycle in order to extract full value. This, in essence, means having a target in mind for any digital implementation.

“This could range in scope from improving daily production performance based on the intelligence provided by data interrogation in order to undertake strategic decision-making from a position of certainty, through to ultimately evolving new business models. Limitations are purely based upon company ambition, as today’s industrial digital technologies with connectivity at their heart can certainly deliver.”

One of Siemens’ solutions for manufacturers is MindSphere, an open IoT operating system for the cloud that enables secure connections from machine to machine or process to process.

Siemens will be one of many of leading organisations represented at the 2019 Summit. For more information, visit www.industry40summit.com.
