UK exports have maintained record levels in the first half of 2018, with goods manufacturers enjoying particularly buoyant trade growth - reaching £343 billion in the year to June.

Total UK exports rose by £26 billion to £621 billion in the first six months of the year - an increase of 4.4 per cent compared to the same time last year. Goods exports grew even more, by 6.3 per cent.

Greater Manchester natural care products manufacturer Faith in Nature, which has worked with GC Business Growth Hub, is one example of a growing exporter in the North West. The company now exports to 35 countries, has been nominated for the Export Award in the Manufacturer MX Awards 2018 and has recently updated its branding that celebrates its ‘Made in the UK’ status.

Global sales of UK food and drink have also received particular praise, with businesses in the sector now selling their products to over 200 global markets. The sector is one of several that has benefitted from the government’s Exporting is GREAT, which highlights the success of current exporters and provides guidance to new exporters.

International Trade Secretary, Liam Fox, said: “As we open consultations for future trade relationships with key global markets around the world, we’re seeing a shift in the UK where we’re moving towards selling more than we buy, with exports increasing faster than imports.

“My international economic department will continue work with companies across the country to ensure they’re making the most of global opportunities.”
