Greater Manchester's manufacturers invited to solve UK rail overcrowding

UK train passenger numbers have more than doubled in the past 20 years placing immense stress on the rail network. The Business Growth Hub in conjunction with Network Rail are inviting manufacturers to find out how their business could be part of the solution to these stresses.

On the 7 December at the Museum of Science and Industry, businesses from the digital and manufacturing sectors are invited to join the event to present their solutions to overcrowding on trains, and become a supplier for Network Rail.

One of the event organisers, David Hilton, Head of Advanced Manufacturing at MIDAS, Greater Manchester's Inward Investment organisation, said:

"This event presents an opportunity for big business and SMEs to collaborate and incite change. The event will showcase the innovative talents of Greater Manchester's small and medium manufacturing and tech firms and offer them with a chance to win new business with Network Rail.

"This is an opportunity for businesses of all sizes, including those who have no previous experience in rail infrastructure."

Attendees at the event will learn about the challenges currently facing Britain's railways, will work with business support specialists to design a proposal to solve the challenges and present it to representatives of Network Rail.

Innovate Manchester: Developing a Modern Railway for a Contemporary Britain is part of the Innovate Manchester events programme, run by the Business Growth Hub Innovation Service.
