Exclusively for manufacturing and engineering leaders from Greater Manchester, this session looked at the practical implications for Industry 4.0 and tasked delegates to consider their drivers for automation and to pinpoint their progress to date.

Industry 4.0 - a journey to digitalisation

During the session delegates heard from Vikram Singla, Product and Supply Chain Applications Leader at Oracle, who spoke about Industry 4.0 as a journey to become fully optimised, which would encompass a businesses products, production and supply chains.

Delegates also heard from Manufacturing Champions Matthew Smallman, Divisional Managing Director (Joint), Hyde Aero Products Ltd and Alan Purvis, Managing Director, Mettler-Toledo Safeline Ltd, who spoke about their experiences in implementing digital systems to date, and offered advice on how delegates could start to consider their strategy.

During the workshop, delegates discussed their drivers for Digitalisation, whether it was to achieve operational excellence, maximise assets and workforces, improve customer service and quality or to match supply with demand. They then considered what progress had been made to date, with most businesses at the early stages of planning for Industry 4.0.
