Design for Success

With the UK’s productivity performance still remaining approximately 16% below its pre-economic crisis trend, solving the productivity puzzle as it has been coined has become a priority in the sector.

To support manufacturers in the North West region increase their business’s productivity, the Manufacturing Growth Fund has developed the Design for Success event series which will run between February and March 2019 and will focus on New Product Design and Development.

The purpose of the series is to help businesses understand the process and the fundamental steps required to create and introduce a new product, with the view of maintaining their competitive edge and increasing their opportunities to move into new markets and/or new market segments.

Event agenda

Each event will include a presentation from a specialist Manufacturing Advisor, who will provide an overview of the Stage Gate Process, a widely implemented industry framework for managing new product innovation excellence. This will include details of the framework and its individual stages, as well as common pitfalls in new product development and introduction.

In addition, the session will feature an IP, Patents and Trademarks presentation which will provide delegates with an understanding of how to secure and maximise the value of their intellectual property.

There will also be an opportunity to speak with the Manufacturing Business Advisors who can let you know about funding which can be used to develop strategies and tools needed to introduce new products and to develop skills that will drive innovation within the operation.

Our workshops are delivered free of charge to participants; however, as they are fully-funded, they are classed as state aid to participating businesses and are subject to state aid rules and the associated eligibility criteria.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Location: North West manufacturing clients
  • SME: Small or medium enterprise i.e. less than 250 (Full Time Equivalent) employees and
    annual turnover less than 50 Million Euro OR Balance Sheet less than 43 million Euro 
  • Sector Restrictions may also apply
