Search begins for 2022 Stockport ‘Low Carbon Pioneer’

A new competition backed by the Hub’s Innovation and Green Technologies experts is searching for innovative Stockport businesses or entrepreneurs who can be pioneers in the low carbon sector.

A new competition backed by the Hub’s Innovation and Green Technologies experts is searching for innovative Stockport businesses or entrepreneurs who can be pioneers in the low carbon sector.

The Low Carbon Pioneer 10 competition is a free-to-enter business acceleration programme designed to stimulate innovation and foster talent in Stockport.

Operated by Oxford Innovation and supported by Stockport Council, Stockport Business and Innovation Centre (SBIC) and GC Business Growth Hub, the 2022 programme focuses specifically on low carbon solutions for the first time. Applications from businesses or entrepreneurs can be solutions to reduce their own environmental impact or their customers.

Free support package

Early participants will receive business advice and guidance delivered via group workshops - including two full-day intensive accelerator workshops on business model development and value proposition by GC Business Growth Hub advisors.

A smaller group of finalists will then receive one-to-one coaching before pitching their ideas to an expert judging panel in a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style event.

The winning Low Carbon Pioneer will receive a package of support that includes free desk and office space at SBIC for 12 months; £5,000 worth of prototype development support with the local university network; tickets to a ‘business event of choice’; and support from Low Carbon Pioneer10 partners.

‘Perfect platform’

“Low Carbon Pioneer 10 is the perfect platform for people who have all the drive and ambition required and are looking for an effective way to move their game-changing ideas forward,” said incubation director Tony Corcoran.

Cllr Sheila Bailey, cabinet member for Sustainable Stockport, added: “The competition is wide reaching in terms of who can apply and if development via Pioneer 10 can bring these companies to market successfully, there are clear benefits for the environment, Stockport’s economy and the wider community.”

Join the next workshop

The first workshop for applicants, focusing on innovation strategy, will take place on 6 April 2022. This will be followed by a workshop on bringing products or services to market on 27 April. For more information, visit pioneer10-stockport.co.uk.
