GM Energy Innovation Agency launching in April

Greater Manchester’s new Energy Innovation Agency will be launched at an event on 28 April 2022, where innovators will be able to pitch solutions for decarbonising heat in non-domestic buildings.

The Energy Innovation Agency - a partnership between Greater Manchester’s universities, local government and industry - aims to scale up clean energy innovations that tackle the net zero challenge, increase energy security and bridge the energy ‘innovation gap’.

The Agency will run a series of Challenge Events designed to engage innovators across the city region and beyond to solve industry problems in four key areas:

  • Energy generation and storage
  • Decarbonisation of heat
  • Low carbon transport
  • Energy diversity and flexibility.

The Agency’s first challenge focuses on the decarbonisation of heat in non-domestic buildings. This sector accounts for 12 per cent of the UK’s carbon emissions, with 60 per cent of non-domestic heat generated by natural gas.

Opportunities to pitch and tour premises

Innovators with a solution to this problem are being invited to contact the Agency for an opportunity to pitch their product or service to partners at the Agency’s public launch event on 28 April.

The most promising pitches, and businesses with the most effective energy innovations, will be supported by the Agency to develop a complete roadmap to commercialisation, with the aim of accelerating the deployment of the energy innovation to make the biggest impact on carbon emissions. Property company Bruntwood is also offering opportunities for tours of their premises requiring clean heat solutions.

The public launch will take place at Bruntwood’s Circle Square development in Manchester city centre from 10-3pm. To attend, or register to pitch at the event, click here.
