‘Switch the Lights’ workshop for retailers

The British Council of Shopping Centres is hosting a free workshop in Manchester on 1 April to help retailers identify the opportunities and benefits of switching to energy efficient, low carbon lighting.

The British Council of Shopping Centres (BCSC) is hosting a free workshop in Manchester on 1 April to help retailers identify the opportunities and benefits of switching to energy efficient, low carbon lighting.

The event, held at Manchester’s Trafford Centre, is one of a series across the UK as part of the Switch the Lights campaign by the Government’s Green Construction Board.

The campaign aims to help retailers understand the significant cost savings that could be achievabed by installing energy efficient lighting. 

It is supported by the BCSC, the British Retail Consortium (BRC) and the Light Industry Association (LIA)

Case studies

The workshop will cover case studies demonstrating how retailers can go about undertaking energy efficient lighting installations, how challenges have been addressed in different contexts, and what financial and non-financial benefits can be achieved. 

It will also cover tools and information to support retailers lacking the resources to engage in energy management or or where financial capital is not readily available.

Speakers

Speakers include Philip Osborn, head of energy at Sainsbury’s, who is currently leading a rollout of LED lighting in Sainsbury’s supermarkets, and Richard Paxton, general manager at the intu Trafford Centre.

Following the workshop, delegates will be taken on an energy management tour of the Trafford Centre.
