Merseyside firm diversifies into recycling

Plastic moulding specialist Coral Products is investing in a recycling plant at its site near St Helens to take back used plastics from surrounding areas and turn them into new products.

Plastic moulding specialist Coral Products is investing in a recycling plant at its site near St Helens to take back used plastics from surrounding areas and turn them into new products.

The company manufactures and distributes plastic injection, extruded and blow-moulded products to a range of sectors, including the food packaging, personal care, household and automotive industries.

While it already re-grinds plastic to make recycled products, the firm has decided to take this one step further by offering customers the option to recycle their plastics with Coral Products directly.

The new service will help to reduce waste to landfill as well as reducing both internal waste and raw material costs.

‘Conscious plastics company’

Speaking to The Manufacturer, Coral Products managing director Neil Ashurst said: “The recycling plant will mean that we are able to offer councils, housing associations and other companies the option of recycling their waste plastic or old containers, and we can then use this new recycled material to create other products.”

“With the impact of waste plastic upon the environment, we are conscious as a plastics company to reduce any impact we may have.”

Group-wide best practice

Coral Products (Mouldings) Ltd is part of the Coral Products plc group, which also includes Manchester manufacturer Tatra Rotalac.

Last year, Tatra Rotalac worked with advisors at the GC Business Growth Hub in Greater Manchester to reduce the energy intensity of its operations through a range of energy efficiency measures.
