In our final newsletter of the year we look back at 2015’s biggest stories, outline what’s in store for 2016 and wish you a Happy Christmas and New Year.

Thank you for reading Green Intelligence during 2015. We will now be taking a short break over the festive period – our next newsletter will be in your inbox on 13 January 2016.

If you would like to re-visit any of the 245 articles we published this year, you can find them in our searchable News Library.

Popular stories

Some of our most popular stories this year have revolved around the ongoing overhaul of environmental and energy policy since the General Election.

The prospect of Conservative majority for the next five years threw up intriguing questions for green business, and the Government has wasted no time in significantly shaking up policies to balance the need to decarbonise the economy against plans to cut spending.

However, the transition to a low carbon economy has continued nonetheless, with ground-breaking products being launched, technology markets evolving at ‘warp-speed’ and global deals setting the direction of travel for the future.

Case studies

We published a number of local success stories throughout the year, covering everything from reducing waste and packaging costs and improving energy efficiency, to new low carbon businesses

ENWORKS also surpassed the milestone of helping businesses across the north west to save one million tonnes of CO2e – a huge achievement that demonstrates the importance of resource efficiency to both the economy and the environment.

Guidance

We have also followed new guidance and advice closely, covering topics such as energy efficiency, water usage, renewable energy, public consultations, and many others.

Looking forward

2016 will continue to be an important year for the green business agenda and our coverage of events and legislative updates will continue to expand, as will our sister services delivered through Greater Manchester’s Business Growth Hub – the Low Carbon Network and Green Growth Pledge.
