A new European support programme for ‘nature-based’ start-ups that focus on products or services with a positive impact on the environment will be launched in Manchester on 15 June 2017.
ECOSTAR is a new research-enterprise impact hub and accelerator to support business models that make profit by marketing, promoting or enhancing biodiversity and ecosystem services.
This could include, for example, ecotourism; services such as environmental restoration or landscape architecture; or technology innovations such as environmental offsetting or tools that communicate environmental benefits.
In the UK, consultancy Ricardo Energy and Environment and the University of Manchester are leading the EU-funded programme. Other European partners are rolling out the project in Italy, Spain and Romania.
The support can include supporting entrepreneurs at the idea stage through an online course, or supporting them in the growth phase through funding and accelerator support.
The launch event on 15 June at the University of Manchester will provide a networking opportunity for all those with an interest in nature-based business.
The agenda includes an introduction to ECOSTAR, an overview of ‘natural capital’ initiatives taking place in Greater Manchester and local case studies.
