Energy experts plan rapid growth

Wigan-based Perfect Sense Energy is on track to double profits in 2016, having benefitted from specialist low carbon sector support from the Greater Manchester Business Growth Hub.

Wigan-based Perfect Sense Energy is on track to double profits in 2016, having benefitted from specialist low carbon sector support from the Greater Manchester Business Growth Hub.

Perfect Sense Energy was established in 2010 by managing director Gary Brandwood, who has progressively built a broad range of renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions into the company’s portfolio.

Having initially focused on solar PV, Perfect Sense has successfully branched out into a number of specialist fields, including the design, supply and installation of LED lighting, voltage optimisation and far infra-red heating, as well as energy contract procurement services.

The company’s approach of working closely with clients to provide customised solutions has proved highly successful. It is now a Carbon Trust Accredited supplier and installer of LED lighting and solar PV systems, meaning that its SME clients can access Green Business Fund grants for qualifying projects.

“Gaining Carbon Trust Accreditation has been a real boost for us, as it proves that our knowledge, products and services have been independently verified”, Gary said.

New concept

The company is now developing its latest concept, ‘Zero Energy Cost Lighting’, which combines renewable energy systems with high efficiency LEDs. This results in solutions which offer extremely attractive returns on investment and reduce the running costs of lighting to zero.

To help promote the concept, raise its profile across Greater Manchester and support its growth ambitions, Perfect Sense received support from low carbon sector experts at the Business Growth Hub.

The company joined the Hub’s Low Carbon Network, a specialist online service for companies in the low carbon sector. Through the Network, Perfect Sense receives regular notifications of relevant business opportunities, including opportunities identified through the Hub’s wider environmental support for Greater Manchester SMEs.

Growth plans

The company has received extremely positive feedback on its responses and was recently awarded a contract to upgrade lighting and controls as part of a large transformation of a factory in Manchester. The project encompasses a range of lighting solutions and an efficient control system to service the factory, its office and exterior yard.

Thanks to its ongoing success, Perfect Sense is on track to increase its turnover and net profit by 50 per cent and 100 per cent respectively this year, with plans to continue expanding into 2017 and beyond.

In order to support these growth ambitions, Dan O’Connell, low carbon sector advisor at the Hub, connected Perfect Sense to The Skills Company, where they secured a digital marketing apprentice to support website development and digital marketing campaigns.

‘Exciting position’

“Perfect Sense is a great example of the fast-growing SMEs that we are helping to thrive here in Greater Manchester’s low carbon sector”, Dan said. “Their ability to remain flexible in a changing market and offer bespoke solutions for clients puts them in a great position going forward.”

Gary added: “Our philosophy is simple – we help businesses to buy better, use less and generate their own renewable energy. The Business Growth Hub’s low carbon sector team actively supports this philosophy and we are now in an exciting position for the future.”
