Enterprising You: Starting Your Business - Introduction to Planning and Finance

This session is an introduction to the Lean Canvas and how it can be used to guide you through the research and planning that needs to be implemented when starting up in business.

The session will also introduce participants to sources of finance, costings to consider when starting and how to operate profitably.

Topics will include:

• Introduction and work through the Lean Canvas

• Business finance breakdown

• The different types of costs incurred in a business

• Sources of finance

• Managing finance overview

Attendees will be shown how to plan and organise their business startup through the use of the Lean Canvas, a one page business tool that gives structure to the early research phase of starting up.

They will also gain insights into the different types of costs that occur within a business. The session will highlight how to make a profit and how to source funding and manage finance.

As this workshop is fully-funded, businesses are subject to eligibility criteria:

• Pre-revenue businesses only, i.e. individuals residing in Greater Manchester that have an idea for a business, or are starting up but have not made any sales
• They also required not to have had any pre-start support from GM Business Growth Hub within the last 2 years
