Developing A ‘People Strategy’ Programme

Big company thinking adapted for SMEs. There will be pragmatic and practical advice shared, with latest research on strategic people management initiatives.

A fully funded programme as part of the Business Growth Hub’s Exectutive Development Programme (EDP) for businesses based in Greater Manchester with 1-249 employees, looking to grow.

It is a total of 12 hours delivered in 2 x one day workshops (9.30 a.m. to 3 p.m.) followed by 2 x 1 hour 1-2-1 consultancy sessions. Workshops are delivered in person in small group sessions.

Ideal for business leaders and those responsible for HR. All workshops to be attended on the programme.

The People Strategy programme is a specialist programme focusing on how to support businesses in developing a bespoke strategic approach for their people resource. Often generic business coaching and strategies for SMEs will focus (importantly) on finance, marketing/customers, operations etc but often does not go into the detail of how to develop a detailed HR/People Strategy, aligned to deliver the strategic aims of the business, that HR specialists are able to provide.

Future World of Work and Strategy focused on people — Looking at the medium to long term considerations for employers to consider including impact of Covid-19, AI, government interventions and policy, new legislation, flexibility, multi-generational expectations and a changing workforce. Understand the Context — Understanding the importance of purpose, employee experience and engagement, values, behavioural competencies and how to create a culture of employee advocacy. Practical advice about how to develop initiatives that will underpin wider business strategy initiatives.

‘How to’ develop/build on a People Strategy — Building HR/People strategic initiatives taking into consideration e.g. recruitment, retention, recognition, reward, skill acquisition, development, succession management, performance management, health and wellbeing, ESG, corporate social responsibility and importance of measurement and metrics to deliver strategic aims.
Key people initiatives and action planning — Review and development of key strategic people initiatives and how to create/develop your People Strategy, aligned and bespoke to deliver your strategic aims. Detailed input on wellbeing, diversity and incusion and talent management and succession and how a People Strategy will help businesses prepare for the longer term as well as short term measures in the current challenging environment.

"A great programme. We learned so much and the connection with other businesses on their journey was invaluable!”

"Excellent course - would highly recommend to all Business Owners and HR professionals in SME businesses"

"This is a no brainer for any SME who wants to take how they manage HR to the next level"

"Really enjoyed it - lots of food for thought. Others who attended also enjoyed it too"

"Can really recommend this programme. Jill is so knowledgeable, experienced and full of current-thinking. Loved it.”

“I was incredibly fortunate to be able to attend the Strategic HR programme delivered by Jill. Sessions were really informative, current and allowed me to step away from the day to day and start to focus and take action for the future. Both the delivery and the peer to peer support on the session were excellent and participation in this event has driven many positive changes throughout our business, most notably the development of a people strategy which aligns to our business goals and will support us in achievement of company strategy. This programme is really worthwhile and I have already recommended it to my external peers”
— Nicola Ryan, Director of Colleague Support, One + All

“The HR Dept's people strategy course has been one of the best courses that I have attended. There was so much information to be packed into four sessions but Jill did a great job. The content was valuable and engaging, and the slides and resources shared after each session were very useful. As an SME I think it can be easy to get your business strategy and marketing strategy in place without having a strategy for the core element of your business, your people. The course also includes two one-to-one sessions which are ideal for anyone who would like personalised help and support on developing their own people strategy. I have come away with a lot of ideas and work to be done which I'm very excited about. I believe it should make a big difference to our business as we grow”
— Rebecca Hopwood, Realm Recruit
