The Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard (MEES) came into force in April 2018. All properties now require an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of E or higher at the issue of a new lease. From April 2023, MEES will apply to all existing commercial leases. It will be unlawful to lease residential or business premises which do not conform to the legislation.
Nationwide, 18% of EPCs fall into F & G rating - this equates to roughly 75,000 commercial premises. In Manchester, it is estimated that 33% of commercial building stock is F & G rated. We therefore see this legislation as a significant opportunity for EPC assessors and providers of energy efficiency technologies.
This workshop aims to explore the size and scope of the market opportunity created by MEES legislation, and the actions taken by various actors and stakeholders to galvanise change and investment.

Maurice Neumann is the Managing Director of EPC National, a nationally leading service based in Greater Manchester providing specialist energy performance certificates (EPC). Providing EPC’s for Residential, Commercial and SAP, Maurice utilises his property background to solve issues which arise from his sector knowledge.
Aneaka Kellay, Engagement and Membership Officer, Carbon Co-op
Aneaka works with householders who are seeking to improve their home's energy efficiency through domestic retrofit. She has over ten years of experience working in environmental organisations, co-operatives and has an MA in environmental politics. She is experienced in hosting workshops, facilitation and community engagement.
