A common mistake when developing medtech products is to dive straight into the product development work and the solution of technical issues without first considering aspects such as user needs, patient needs, reimbursement pathways and regulatory requirements.
In this workshop, Alistair Williamson from Lucid Innovation will provide his views on activities that should be undertaken before the product development process starts to ensure that the final product meets the requirements of all the stakeholders involved and hence is more likely to be commercially successful.
This will be followed by a talk on medical product Intellectual Property to be delivered by Dr Jonathon Stafford, a partner at Manchester-based IP lawyers Marks & Clerk. The talk will primarily focus on the patenting process and how the patent process aligns with the product development process. Other IP rights such as copyrights, design rights and trademark will be covered more briefly.
Alistair Williamson will then talk about a number of case studies on medical products that he has been involved with followed by a Q&A to discuss issues related to the presentations.
