As of May 2017, 12,620 charging points at 4,397 locations are available around the UK with an estimated total of 101,500 plug-in cars and vans on the road. Therefore, the current ratio in the UK stands at 1 charger for every 8 vehicles. It is estimated that an additional 600,000 EVs will be on the road by 2020. The European Union indicates that for EVs to become commercially viable there has to be 1 charger per every 10 vehicles. As a result, around 60,000 additional chargers could be required in the UK in the next 3 years. With only 7.5% of the total number of charging points found in the North West area, there is a significant need for charging points to be installed if current uptake trends continue and Clean Air Zones are implemented into major urban areas.

This workshop aims to explore the market drivers for Low Emission Vehicles and charge point infrastructure requirements and the key opportunities that can be tapped into.
