The district heating market in the UK is expected to be worth £5bn over the next five years, with 10 projects being developed across Greater Manchester alone, including the civic heat network project, which is due to start in 2018.
To help Greater Manchester businesses take advantage of emerging supply chain opportunities, the Business Growth Hub is staging an event that mixes practical advice with guidance on routes to market. There will also be the opportunity to meet experienced Scandinavian supply chain companies who are interested in developing local partnerships.
The predicted rapid expanse of the market will provide opportunities beyond the capacity of the existing supply chain and the event will give an overview of the project pipeline, the type of companies already working in the supply chain and likely timescales. The district heating market calls for a wide range of different skills and capabilities, and there are likely to be opportunities for companies operating in a wide range of construction and civil engineering disciplines. These include pipes, valves and leak detection systems, as well as electrical components, metering systems and other digital solutions. There will also be a strong demand for Heat Interface Units (HIUs), insulation systems and other monitoring and controls.
