Managing people for the first time

Becoming a manager is a crucial stepping stone in most careers but, for creatives, can be one of the most challenging. Making things and managing people can require two very different skillsets. This practical seminar will give participants insights into how to manage effectively, or more effectively if you're already doing it.

Taught by former BBC producer Sue Ahern, it will cover how to hire the right people and create a complementary team, getting off on the right foot - and the importance of inductions and orientations, agreeing and monitoring objectives, giving and receiving feedback, dealing with underperformance, achieving emotional control and how to develop and retain staff. As a partner at Creative People, Sue now specialises in coaching and helping managers and individuals in creative businesses realise their full potential, and works with many of the UK's leading indies.
