Better Business for All

Better Business for All (BBfA) is a government scheme designed to create partnerships between businesses and regulators with one key aim – to help businesses get regulation right first time.

It can prove difficult to explain regulation and why it’s so important. So the BBfA partnership has been examining how regulators currently communicate with private industry, and how services can be improved to address the issues facing local businesses.

The Greater Manchester Regulatory Centre of Excellence (GMRCE):

The GMRCE is Greater Manchester’s version of BBfA – it is a unique partnership between the ten Greater Manchester Local Authorities and Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service to provide a single point of access for advice covering all types of regulatory compliance including food safetyhealth & safetytrading standards and fire safety

Our services include:

  • Free signposting service, helping you navigate complex legislation when starting and running a business
  • Access to free and paid-for workshops across Greater Manchester
  • Expert help so you can get regulation right first time
  • Specialist scrutiny of your processes and practices in a safe environment

“Being a start-up and bringing an innovative food product to market, it is sometimes difficult to find the right sources for quality advice on labelling regulation and Health & Safety. Salford City Council provided us with everything we needed to make the right decisions for our product!”

Mia & Ben – Start-up business March 2019

The health and safety of guests visiting Old Trafford is of paramount importance for Manchester United. We are proud to have a close working relationship with Trafford Council and its local Environmental Health team. Together we hope to not only ensure that our stadium is at the very top of the environmental health spectrum, but also to be educated in as well as share best practices with other organisations and authorities.
By entering into a Primary Authority Partnership with Trafford Council we are highlighting our dedication to this area, creating a safe and welcoming environment for the vast amount of guests who visit the club each season. We believe this is a very worthy initiative and one which we are looking forward to developing over the coming 12 months.

“Jigsaw Homes Group Ltd formed on 3 April 2018 from the merger of New Charter Group and Adactus Housing Group to become one of the largest housing providers based in the North West of England, covering five local authority areas. As a bigger organisation, fire safety is of the upmost importance, especially across the housing sector. Being part of the primary authority scheme partnership with GMFRS, through the Greater Manchester Regulatory Centre of Excellence, has given us the ability to have direct communication and advice to proactively manage fire safety.”
