Invitation to a meeting with the Office of Tax Simplification

Does dealing with your company’s tax obligations take up more of your time / resources than you feel it should? Ever thought there’s got to be an easier way? The Office of Tax Simplification (“OTS”) needs to hear from you! This is your opportunity to share your views and help to shape our tax system for the future.

Our aim is to develop recommendations for the Chancellor and Financial Secretary on how to simplify the tax system, increase certainty and reduce administrative burdens. We would like to hear from you about the difficulties you have with the current tax system and any suggestions you have for improving it.

We invite you to a join us for a round-table discussion which will take place on Thursday 14 January 2016.

During the session we would welcome your input into our two projects that are currently underway (terms of reference can be found here.

  • A simplification review of small company taxation.

For this report we are interested in all taxes and our focus is on companies with between 1 and 9 employees as “small”, though perspectives from larger businesses are welcome.

  • Closer alignment of income tax with National Insurance Contributions (NICs).

We are examining ways of brings the income tax and NICs systems closer together – the definitions of ‘earnings’, the weekly vs annual bases of calculation, the different burdens on employed or self-employed, and the whole area of employers’ NICs.

Where is it?
