As part of Venturefest the Business Growth Service will be hosting an advanced materials breakfast in collaboration with Innovate UK, Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) and the National Graphene Institute (NGI). Speakers will be presenting on advancing the commercial applications of graphene.

Graphene, the novel two-dimensional (2D) carbon-based material discovered in the UK, has extraordinary properties: it is one of the strongest materials known to science and has superlative electrical and thermal conductivity. The UK has been a global leader in research on graphene since it was discovered at the University of Manchester.

This seminar will provide a brief introduction to graphene materials and the KTN Special Interest Group. You can find out more about the subject and a forthcoming funding competition from Innovate UK for Advancing the Commercial Applications of Graphene.

On the day you can find out about the Innovate UK and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Graphene Competition. The competition will see investment of up to £2.5 million in technical feasibility studies to target the applications of graphene with the greatest commercial potential. Successful applicants will develop graphene applications through projects that are expected to last 6 to 12 months and to range in size from total costs of £100,000 to £250,000.

Please be aware that by booking onto a workshop you automatically have access to the main Venturefest event and Innovation Showcase. To find out more about Venturefest Manchester 2015 please click here.
