Case Studies: Foods for Fitness

Overview:

Foods for Fitness is a successful online business that provides quality meats and poultry to people such as gym goers, body builders and those looking to match a healthy diet to their individual fitness regime.

The challenge:

Set up by Simon Orman, the Bolton business was ticking over, with four members of staff and a turnover of £130,000. But Simon felt he had taken the company as far as he could without professional advice to help assess the business’s growth potential and put in place some more strategic goals.

The solution:

Simon contacted the Business Growth Hub after reading about it in the Sunday Times. Following an initial assessment that established the business’s growth potential, Simon met with business growth manager, Yousef Taktak. Together they developed a five year strategy for the business and identified the key areas for development that would support sustainable growth.

Simon says: “Yousef is very experienced with the first-hand knowledge and skills required to help a business grow and take it to the next level - something I had been struggling to do.

“Because Yousef can stand back and take an overall approach to the business, he was able to give advice on a structured plan, with achievable building blocks for me to follow.

“What was also reassuring was that it was obvious Yousef had a genuine interest in the business, and knowing that you’ve got someone of his experience on your side is great for morale.”

Simon is keen to make the most of all the opportunities offered by the Hub to grow and Yousef has now put him in contact with digital marketing specialists Social Media Stream to help develop a strategy that will drive more sales through the website.

Since starting to work with the Hub, Simon has been able to take on four more members of staff and says that there is a new buzz about the business, with people now having a much great understanding of where the business is going, and their role in its future.

Turnover is also up by 15 per cent and he has secured a new business contract worth £30,000 a year. Simon is now working with the Hub to look at the possibility of refinancing the business through the Hub’s Access to Finance service.

“Because Yousef can stand back and take an overall approach to the business, he was able to give advice on a structured plan, with achievable building blocks for me to follow."
