Case Studies: Worldwide LED Lighting

Overview:

Worldwide LED Lighting Ltd, a supplier and installer of LED lighting based in Tameside, has achieved full ISO accreditation and won new business with support from the Business Growth Hub.

The energy efficient lighting specialist supplies and installs LED lighting for the commercial and industrial markets, covering a wide range of building types from hotels and restaurants to factories and warehouses.

The challenge:

The company utilises the latest low carbon LED technology that is guaranteed for 50,000 hours, independently tested to the same standards as the world’s leading brands and installed by in-house NAPIT-certified lighting engineers.

Its UK-first next generation technology also includes wireless, retrofit-suitable software that allows energy usage to be managed from anywhere in the world.

The solution:

To help it achieve further growth as part of Greater Manchester’s emerging low carbon economy, Worldwide LED Lighting has benefitted from specialist low carbon sector support from the Green Growth service, which is specifically designed to help technology specialists like Worldwide LED Lighting identify and overcome barriers to growth.

Low Carbon Network

As a member of the Hub’s Low Carbon Network, Worldwide LED Lighting is regularly connected to new business opportunities, including local public sector tenders and installation opportunities from Green Growth’s resource efficiency programme for SMEs.

In May 2015, the company was successful in helping a client to enter and win grant funding from the Stockport Sustainable Business Challenge, a Business Growth Hub-supported initiative to help local businesses reduce their environmental impact by installing resource efficient technologies.

As a result, Worldwide LED Lighting won a £10,000 contract to replace its client’s lighting with energy efficient LED alternatives.

Grant funding

To ensure that it maintains its competitiveness in the thriving LED industry, the Green Growth service also provided Worldwide LED Lighting with a £4,000 grant to fund the implementation of a new management system that meets the requirements of ISO 9001, 14001and OHSAS 18001 standards.

This achievement has opened up new markets for the company by allowing them to demonstrate their commitment to quality, environmental performance and health and safety to prospective clients.

‘Excellent example’

As a result of this support, Worldwide LED Lighting has created a new position in its workforce and is planning to expand its team further over the coming months.

Michael Jagger, director of Worldwide LED Lighting, said: “The LED market is a fast moving industry that has a huge potential for helping businesses to reduce their energy costs and become more efficient.

“The Green Growth team has been instrumental in helping us to raise our profile in Greater Manchester and put new processes in place to ensure that we can compete with the very best in the market.”

Green Growth low carbon sector advisor, Amy House, added: “Worldwide LED Lighting is an excellent example of a growing low carbon technology SME that is putting all the right measures in place and taking advantage of every opportunity available to ensure they can provide an innovative quality service to their customers, which is proving to be very successful.”

"The Green Growth team has been instrumental in helping us to raise our profile in Greater Manchester and put new processes in place"
