Case Studies: MHA Lighting

Overview:

MHA Lighting is an award-winning LED lighting manufacturer in Atherton, Wigan, that specialises in producing lighting solutions for commercial and industrial sectors.

The firm’s award-winning patented lighting technology, which is tested in-house and independently verified, enables it to install fewer LEDs into light fittings whilst still sustaining the same light output. This helps companies to achieve the best lit environment possible whilst significantly cutting energy bills and carbon emissions.

One of its recent successes (pictured) includes working with a document management company to upgrade its lighting, resulting in an 80 per cent cut in lighting costs across three sites. This project saved the client nearly half a million pounds in lifetime energy savings.

The challenge:

The company wanted to strengthen its role in Greater Manchester’s low carbon sector with support from Green Growth.

The solution:

An on-site visit from the Green Growth service reviewed MHA’s technologies, in-house testing facilities, R&D department and modelling software, as well as checking the efficiency of the manufacturing site itself.

Following the review, MHA has become part of Green Growth’s network of lighting suppliers for its resource efficiency support programme, which helps Greater Manchester SMEs find ways to reduce the use of energy, water and materials in day-to-day operations.

As part of the resource efficiency programme, MHA has benefitted from the opportunity to speak at two of Green Growth’s ‘Meet the Supplier’ events, as well as being introduced to a number of potential clients.

Green Growth’s low carbon sector team is also supporting MHA with market intelligence and finding new routes to market, as well as ongoing identification of marketing, sales and awards opportunities.

Connecting opportunities

Claire Scott, Green Growth environmental business advisor, said: “One of the unique aspects of our support is the focus on connecting Greater Manchester companies that are developing and manufacturing low carbon technologies to local customers in need of their services.

“It’s great to find a high-tech company like MHA Lighting offering unique low carbon solutions.”

Tom Harrison, MHA Lighting’s Managing Director, said: “We’re always striving to develop our product range so we can continue to provide the most efficient lighting solutions available - without compromising on light quality or output.

“The Green Growth service is great because it rewards that ethos and supports us in finding new growth opportunities with local companies in need of our services.”
