The Green Growth team uses high-tech equipment to identify efficiency savings for businesses, helping to highlight costly problems that often go unnoticed.
With the state-of-the-art technologies Green Growth advisors have access to, businesses that use a lot of energy can often identify significant savings that would have otherwise gone unnoticed.
Depending on the needs of each business, Green Growth advisors use a number of different technologies to identify savings – from data loggers to record energy use from specific production processes to compressed air leak detectors which identify inefficient equipment. One of the most striking is a thermal imaging camera which can map out unnecessary heat loss from machinery, building fabric and work space, often leading to surprising savings that would have otherwise remained invisible.
“It’s not just energy savings that are made with this kit though,” says Green Growth environmental business advisor, Alasdair Dalzel-Job. “With thermal imaging we can identify other issues that could cause production problems. No business wants to be in the position of shutting down production because of an unidentified fault that was entirely preventable. These occurrences can cost tens of thousands of pounds in terms of production and are difficult to spot without the right kit.”
Although an increasing number of businesses are taking steps to mitigate these risks, Alasdair notes that it often falls too far down the ‘to-do’ list and that sometimes all it takes is some expert support: “It’s difficult to fix a problem if it can’t be seen, so technology that makes the invisible visible can sometimes make all the difference.”
